Dealership recently took delivery of a 2016 Camaro SS with a 6-speed. It was blaaaack. Here are some photos of it I shot. It drives rather nice. Clutch is super stiff, though. Also the salesmen further proved they’re all idiot manchildren who know nothing about cars by hooning about in a car with 4 miles on it. Sure that’s great for the break-in period. Of course, damage already done I did thrash it a little in the back lot before giving the general manager the keys back. It was glorious. Pictures shot with a Nikon D3100 w/ kit lens, for those wondering. Photography nerds: Would a polarizing filter help with reflections off of car paint? Or does the paint not polarize the light so the filter wouldn’t accomplish anything?

That sure is pretty. Was it a customer car? Cuz I’d be pretty pissed if I ordered a brand new car and it got hooned before in my possession.

I like the light stripes.

Yes, a linear polarizer will affect the reflections. It’s just like water in that sense.
Am I seeing some hardcore orange peel on the rear left quarter panel?

Nah. Ordered by the dealership for our lot. Cars ordered by customers usually have the customer present when it’s driven off the truck. Sometimes they want to actually drive it off the truck themselves, which is always a fun time.

They’re really well executed. Change color, too.

Awesome. I’ll see if I can order one, then. I’m sick of having to be so damn conscious of my own reflection.
Yeah, Camaros have some of the shittiest paint of any Chevy. Orange peel 4 days and it scratches super easily.

Holy moly black suits the car perfectly. Nice pics btw

Are break-in periods still a thing? I remember when they used to be pretty complicated, requiring the driver to do things like keep it under 50mph, and avoid holding it a constant RPM speed.
But I’ve heard that some new cars aren’t like that at all. They have just one early (~1500 mi or so) oil change, and that’s it.

Cool. Carry on the hoonage in that case.
I think I got Kinja'd. Was trying to reply to your reply...

Damn thats nice! Great pics!
In person, 6th gens look like a 5th gen hit the gym. Slimmer and more chiseled.

Ohhhhh, that looks very good!

Due to physics, you will still have to be cognizant of it. On the other hand, it will allow you to remove other reflections that are unsightly.
That legendary GM quality shows through (the Corvette is a mystery to me). I thought automakers figured out how to do paint right at least 20 years ago... Usually orange peel is considered a pretty serious defect...

Yes, it’s not terribly obvious in pictures, but the new Camaro feel far smaller when you stand next to it in person. I’ll try to grab a picture of a 6th gen next to a 5th gen when Monday rolls around

one of the sales guys walked into the photo booth, commented “i love the way these sound”, then fired it up and the instant it turned over he revved it up to about 5000rpm and HELD it there bouncing it between 4800 and 5200RPM. As if that “revving” sounds good. Then he turned it off while it was still at 4500rpm. It was the most awkward 30 seconds of my life and I weep for the poor cams/lifters/pushrods/whole fucking head on that car.

I’m not sure, honestly. I would assume you’d not want to be doing 0-60 pulls and redlining it between shifts on a car just a few miles out of the factory.

Thanks! It’s a bear to keep clean. I’ve had to detail it twice so far. Once for pictures, then a day later it was dirty again and I had to detail it so it could sit in the showroom.

The Ford dealer refused to do an oil change for me at 1k when I asked. A bunch of crap, mind you, but I couldn’t find anywhere to get it done and didn’t have a place to do it myself (technically still don’t). In theory, you should do it around there just to get junk out of the oil, then every 5k miles.
The way they build them now, there's no need for the historic formal break in, though you should go easier on the car for a while.

Once you start there’s no end to keeping a car clean.

That should be interesting, Ive been wondering how they compare next to each other.

There is when it will spend the next few months sitting inside until someone buys it and it no longer becomes my problem.

Beautiful car. Although I throw up a little every time I see the steering wheel.

Aargh that’s a tiny bit infuriating. Some people are just like that. This is why I won’t let anyone near my (well, soon-to-be-mine) new sportbike until I've broken her in the correct way.

I baby the shit out of other people’s cars. Of course, a dealership isn’t a people but it still kills me that nice machinery is being abused so soon.

I know this isn’t the point of the post, but I just realized they did away with useless, yet amazingly fun retro gauges near the shifter. Also, obvi, do want.

I believe those were an option on the previous gen. Not sure if they’re still an option I just haven’t seen yet or not. There were, if nothing else, charming though.
